Do Police Have to Follow Traffic Laws
My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Oregon
Do police have to follow traffic laws if they are mearly patroling traffic and not involved in an emergency? What specific Oregon law regulates their patroling activities?
I recieved a citation for failure to stop for a school bus. The police car was parked in the center turn lane of a street while monitoring traffic in a school zone. The police car's headlights blinded me so that I could not see the school bus.

If not responding to an emergency, hot pursuit, etc., or any operation of law, yes, an officer has to folllow all statutory traffic laws as well.
However, even if they violated a statutory law when checking for violators, it is highly unlikely a court will give that defense any weight.#1; Mon, 09 Feb 2009 06:05:00 GMT
